Food Safety Initiatives

The Nagatanien Domestic Group is committed to "ensuring the safety of our products and services" as the first of our corporate action guidelines. In 2009, we established our own quality assurance system, NAFSAS (*1), and since then we have been constantly monitoring global conditions and trends related to food safety, incorporating know-how from various international standards, and developing and operating the system in a form that is compatible with the corporate scale and culture of the Nagatanien Group.
NAFSAS is committed to quality, focusing on the following three pillars: "quality assurance and customer satisfaction," "food safety," and "crisis management". The Nagatanien Group will continue to make new efforts to develop safe, nutritious, and delicious products.

The Three Pillars of "NAFSAS"

① Quality Assurance and Customer Satisfaction "Nagatanien Quality Management System" (ISO9001)

The ISO 9001 system allows us to confirm effective operation, maintain and continually improve our management system through regular internal audits and reviews by external organizations.

② Food Safety "Food Safety Management System"

We operate based on the items stipulated in FSSC22000*3, an international standard that emphasizes HACCP*2 management, and incorporating know-how such as food allergy audits*4, and evolving our own hygiene management (prerequisite program for food safety) and food defense*5 management to suit the situation at each of our factories.

③ Crisis Management "Product Recall System and Traceability System"

However, in case a serious problem occurs with a product supplied by The Nagatanien Domestic Group, we have established and are operating product recall management rules so that the relevant departments can take appropriate action as soon as possible, and we conduct periodic mock drills. Simulated drills are conducted on a regular basis. In addition, at each stage of product production, processing, and distribution, we keep records of raw materials, packaging materials, production sites, and sales destinations, and have established a system that enables us to trace product history information.

※2 HACCP
The basic vegetation control program (general vegetation control program) is implemented in the factory, then each product is analyzed for potential hazards at each stage of production, from receiving raw materials to shipping, and the product is properly controlled based on the analysis.
(This is a hygiene control method called hazard analysis).

※3 FSSC22000
An international standard for food safety systems that combines ISO 22000 and the standard for general vegetative management for food production (ISO/TS22002-1).

※4 Food Allergy Audits
C&S Corporation which has received education and training from an authoritative institution in Canada, a country with advanced food allergy countermeasures, to conduct regular audits to ensure that the environment is suitable for the production of food allergy-friendly products. We regularly conduct audits to ensure that the environment is suitable for the production of food allergy-friendly products, and have received high evaluations.

※5 Food Defense
It is a safety management method to prevent intentional contamination or mixing of foreign substances or poisons into food products. We control the entry and exit of people to and from the factory, as well as the locking and inventory control of detergents and chemicals used in the factory.
